November 11th - 19th at The ANNEX Theatre (823 Seymour Street)

Premiering with an event to honour Remembrance Day, and closing on the United Nations-sanctioned 'World Toilet Day'.

A stage adaption of a multi-award winning radio text by Wolfram Lotz, The Ridiculous Darkness is a satirical modern mash-up of the classic novel Heart of Darkness and the Oscar-winning film Apocalypse Now. When two soldiers enter a foreign (to them) land to retrieve a fellow comrade who has gone rogue, the local communities and inhabitants encounter them one by one, and the journey becomes an earnest – albeit hilarious - exploration of how difficult yet vital it is to understand "the other".

Directed by Marisa Emma Smith and Nyla Carpentier, The Ridiculous Darkness features Clint Andrew (The Embargo Project, Arctic Air), Daniel Arnold (Little One, The Romeo Initiative), Miranda Edwards (Twelfth Night - Stratford), Emilie Leclerc (Redpatch, Mathieu Mathematiques), Munish Sharma (Brothel #9, Men in White), Amanda Sum (The Wolves) and numerous other performers from the Vancouver community.

Ancillary Community Events:
- Post-show talkbacks dedicated to each partner group
- Public workshops and events hosted by the partner groups

The Ridiculous Darkness won ‘German Play of the Year’ and ‘Dramatist of the Year’ for writer Wolfram Lotz before sweeping across Europe with over 20 productions since 2015. It has been professionally translated into English by Daniel Brunet (translator of Funny Games), and Alley Theatre's production is the North American premiere.
