13. Big Stories, Small Packages

The Vancouver Writers Fest presents

Moderator: Michael Hingston

If a novel immerses you in a world, a short story offers a tantalizing glimpse of it through the window of a few pages. These intricate, complete packages are some of the hardest to construct. All the more reason to delve into the works of revered storytellers Lisa Moore, Paula Morris and Ondjaki during a conversation moderated by Short Story Advent Calendar co-creator and Let’s Go Exploring author, Michael Hingston. Moore’s smorgasbord of Something for Everyone reconfirms her as a master of the form. New Zealand–based Morris offers “incident and intrigue” in a blend of short stories and essays around the theme of secret histories and deception in False River. And Ondjaki, author of three story collections, is known for his magical realism and literary experimentation.

Presented by SFU’s The Writers Studio in support of community mentorship.
