Vancouver Writers Fest

25. Star Treatment

The Vancouver Writers Fest presents

Moderator: Andrea Fehsenfeld

“Now a major motion picture.” It’s an increasingly-common phrase seen on bestselling book covers—including, most recently, those of Patrick deWitt and Iain Reid, and in 2012 Craig Davidson saw his novel Rust and Bone compete for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes film Festival where it received a ten-minute standing ovation. How are metaphorical depictions translated to the big screen? How much (if any) involvement do the original storytellers have in these transformations? Has their approach to novel-writing changed after their experiences with the cinema? These cutting-edge writers, each with new works out this year, are well placed to answer such questions and more.
