27. Rachel Kushner in Conversation with Mark Medley

The Vancouver Writers Fest presents

The roar for gender equality has echoed across centuries, but scarcely has it sounded louder in recent history than now. Discrimination is increasingly illuminated and dismantled. In no small part, this is due to leading-edge feminist thinker and author Rachel Kushner influencing international conversation, no more so than with her acclaimed, and Booker-longlisted novel, The Mars Room. It’s a gripping depiction of institutionalized sexism, as told through the experiences of a mother serving two life sentences. The giant of contemporary culture discusses her latest work—and the current events that inspired it—with The Globe and Mail Opinions Editor, Mark Medley, known for his deft, insightful curation of culture-changing conversation.
