28. Ondjaki in Conversation with Eleanor Wachtel

The Vancouver Writers Fest presents

“Fiction doesn’t happen to me, fiction happens in Angola and I happen to be there,” explained Ondjaki, a young novelist hailed as one of the “Top 5 African Writers” by The Guardian. It’s a surprising statement from an author whose work is magnificently imaginative, with “a lighter touch than the likes of Gabriel Garcia Marquez” but the same “playful and blistering indictment against the tyrannical state,” according to the Toronto Star. Ondjaki will discuss his anticipated latest novel, Transparent City, with beloved CBC Writers & Company host, Eleanor Wachtel. Be transported to the so-called city in which Ondjaki’s protagonist Odo-nato struggles to survive during this compelling and inquisitive conversation.
