Vancouver Writers Fest

33. Sharing Truths

The Vancouver Writers Fest presents

Moderator: Cherie Dimaline

Stories are a powerful way to share truths—especially those that have been ignored or silenced in the past. Three acclaimed Indigenous authors of children’s books read from their new works before talking about the important messages they carry and why it’s paramount to share both their own truths and those of others. David A. Robertson of the Norway House Cree Nation educates and entertains in Monsters. Katherena Vermette, widely celebrated for her adult novel, The Break, shares Red River Resistance, the second instalment in the A Girl Called Echo series. Monique Gray Smith invites children to ask what reconciliation means in Speaking Our Truth: A Journey of Reconciliation. Moderated by the Festival’s Guest Curator, and author of The Marrow Thieves, Cherie Dimaline, this will be a moving and eye-opening conversation.
