Vancouver Writers Fest

60. The Poetry Bash

The Vancouver Writers Fest presents

BILLY-RAY BELCOURT, JULIE BRUCK, SHANE KOYCZAN, SABRINA MAHFOUZ, KATHERENA VERMETTE, JAVIER ZAMORA

Host: Billeh Nickerson

There’s a palpable sense of anticipation for The Poetry Bash. 2018’s lineup is no exception. Their styles may vary, but their talents do not. Possibly the world’s most famous slam poet, Shane Koyczan, performs from his most recent collection, Turn On A Light. Billy-Ray Belcourt became the youngest-ever winner of the Griffin Poetry Prize for This Wound Is a World. Julie Bruck (How to Avoid Huge Ships) can be found in The New Yorker and The Walrus… and on our stage. Sabrina Mahfouz, a rising star from the UK, performs from her 2017 The Guardian Best Read, How You Might Know Me. Award-winning Katherena Vermette shares her poetry from river woman, and internationally celebrated Javier Zamora describes the unaccompanied journey he made from El Salvador to the United States as a small boy.
